Name:
Edouard Beaupain
Age:
20
Appearance:
After what he considers to be the most disappointing growth spurt of all time, the short, skinny little boy named Edouard transformed into the not-so-tall, skinny young man named Edouard. At 5'6, he's at least taller than some people he knows, but still manages to be overshadowed by just about everyone else. Despite his school time enthusiasm for sports and his restless nature, he's never quite managed to bulk up. His blue-green eyes betray a sharp and inquisitive nature, complimented by his light-brown hair and boyish features.
Occupation:
His main source of income comes from the various shares and holdings he has with numerous international companies, as well as the trust fund set up for him by his parents.
He also happens to be a jewel thief; when he feels like it. Not really because he enjoys shiny stones or even profits from his endeavours, but rather because he can. According to him, there's nothing more satisfying than walking out of a store with several hundred thousand dollars worth of merchandise on your person, and nobody batting an eyelash at you.
History:
After the death of her husband, Antoinette Beaupain could no longer stand living in Paris. As a way of coping with her grief, she travelled around the great cities of the world, living out of suitcases in grand hotels. This was also how her then six year old son, Edouard, came to know life. Tutored by his mother, he spent more time with her and the eclectic yet sophisticated company she kept than with children his own age. When allowed to run free, the boy would wander around city centres, into large department stores and through bustling marketplaces.
The first object Edouard ever stole was a cheap watch from a store in Berlin. It had been a complete accident; he had been trying on different watches whilst having a conversation with the amiable shop owner when he walked out, merchandise still on his wrist. It was only an hour later, as he headed to meet his mother at a cafe, did he realise what he had done. Unlike the more morally inclined boys his age, Edouard did not feel any guilt over the dishonest acquisition of the watch. It only left him with a fascinating question; would he be he able to do the same thing again without being caught?
At first they were small, unnoticeable things, but as he grew older and racked up the frequent flyer miles he would return to his hotel rooms hoarding treasures hat grew more and more valuable, day by day. People were easy to confuse; the jewellery store clerks trusted him because they knew his face and knew his mother, an heiress and socialite. All he had to do was distract them, confuse them with talking, ask them to bring out the jewellery so he could look closer, and then decide no, how about the ones over there. By the time they ever realised anything was missing he was always safely in a plane, heading for a completely different country.
Personality:
Years of careful upbringing have ensured that in the right company, Edouard exemplifies the modern gentleman. A courteous and helpful demeanour help to overshadow his occasional immaturity or arrogance, and despite a passion for philanthropy (those hobos need the diamonds more than he does) and a general philosophy of trying to find the best in everyone, he's not naive enough to let himself be taken advantage of so easily.
If there's one thing that Edouard can't stand, it's confrontations. Mainly because in his past experience these have led up to fights, which have led up to pain and bleeding on his part. He's generally too busy focusing on the positive aspects of life to get weighed down by the negative anyway, and even if you are absolutely horrible to him, the least he'll do is act with calm, practiced politeness and civility (which tends to annoy people anyway). It takes a lot to rile him up, and he's never really had an outburst in front of others.
